Benefits to Going Electric

  • Save Money. The average cost to operate an EV is $485 per year compared to $1,117 per year for a gas vehicle.​
  • Get Money. Federal tax incentives up to $7,500. Check list of eligible vehicles. 
  • Avoid Sales Tax.  Zero-emission vehicles are exempt from New Jersey state sales tax.
  • Skip Emissions Tests. No inspection sticker needed. Battery electric vehicles are exempt from NJ emissions testing.
  • Use HOV Lanes. Plug-in EVs are eligible for HOV lanes on the NJ Turnpike as well as the 
  • Get EZ Pass Discounts. Green Pass Discount for the NJ Turnpike and Garden State Parkway.
  • Reduce Your Footprint. EVs produce less greenhouse gas emissions even when electricity generation is taken into account. For detailed analysis, check out this study. Page 64 notes that widespread EV adoption  could  β€œdecrease transportation related CO2 emissions by 40.0% in 2050.”​​
