What Is Ridgewood Project 1000 Acres?

Project 1000 Acres for Ridgewood began with some questions:

  • How could we act in a bigger, broader way  to address global warming, water and noise pollution, and promoting a robust ecosystem?
  • How can we convert and/or maintain close to one third -- 1000 out of 3600 total acres -- of the land in our Village as β€œSustainable”?
  • How can this project bring citizens, government, schools, businesses, and utilities towards a common effort for common benefit?
  • Can we draw on proven sustainable landscape principles? Can we mirror other successful efforts?
  • Can we be an example for other communities?
  • Could we accomplish this by the end of 2024?

We researched sustainable landscape best practices, consulted with experts, and followed government guidance.

We created "10 Actions Now" for greener property maintenance.

These actions can apply to residences, businesses, utilities, and common lands in our Village. They are voluntary actions. Even trying just one of them is a good thing.

Participating in even a few actions will gain a Green Ridgewood Recognition Certificate (and most importantly help the environment!).
