Why and How Should We Recycle Food Scraps?

Approximately 1.3 billion tons of worldwide food production for human consumption is wasted every year, if a quarter of this metric were saved roughly 870 millions people could be fed.

Even though many people consider New Jersey one of the wealthiest states in the country, nearly 11% of the state’s

Ridgewood is helping contribute to this goal via the Food Scrap Recycling Dropoff Program

*Only a limited number of households can participate

2 food scrap bins are at the Recycling Center (203 E. Glen Avenue) and the Ridgewood Train Station (6 Station Plaza)

Recently, 2 new food scrap bins have been added on the east side of the parking lot at Habernickel Park (1037 Hillcrest Road) and the Glen School Field at the intersection of Quackenbush Place and Eastbrook Road. Green Ridgewood has helped finance a majority of one of these bins, you can find our logo printed on the bin at Habernickel Park!
